[edit] First version of Help:Contents
To help us, you can do the following:
- Register in this wiki, and start adding stuff.
- Register in our forum and add posts.
- Come to our meetings.
- Spread the word about Linux and Unix.
Haha Thomas this is hilarious. People expect a page here telling them how we can help them and instead we tell them how they can help us. :-D — Laudaka 02:05, 31 January 2009 (CET)
[edit] Second version of Help:Contents, this should be incorporated in it

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Templates
This comment should be somewhere in our Help (of the ClubNix wiki):
- To edit the text of the template: scroll down to the bottom of the page right now and below "Templates used on this page" you will find the link to edit it. We use a wiki template for the meeting description so when the meeting is on the front page the text there is identical to the text here. Laudaka 18:27, 11 March 2009 (CET)
[edit] Reorganizing the wiki (including linking to this Help page)
Probably the Donations page should be removed from the "navigation" box at the left, so this page "Help:Contents" is a little less kind of hidden in that navigation box. (What's on the Donations page can be moved to the FAQ.)
Maybe this page should be called "Help:Contents" in the navigation box at the left or even better "ClubNix wiki Help". We should add a link to the e-mail newsletter in the navigation box, and a link to the ClubNix forum. (I checked and it is possible to add links external to the wiki in the navigation box or toolbox box.)
The "Random page" in the navigation box is completely useless for our wiki I believe, let's remove that one.
[edit] Notes for experienced users/admins
Anyone can export single pages from the wiki with Special:Export. Exporting all pages with Special:Export is a crude way to make a back-up of the essential information stored in the wiki.
The opposite of it Special:Import is only allowed for users with Sysop privileges. You could import exported pages of the ClubNix in your own wiki if you need to experiment.
For more information on this topic see the MediaWiki software website: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Backing_up_a_wiki — Laudaka
[edit] Test: adding SVG images
To upload an image you choose Upload file from the toolbox on the left. GIF and JPEG work fine, PNG isn't recognized as image.
And here is a test for SVG| Error creating thumbnail: /home/clubnix/mediawiki-1.10.0/bin/ulimit4.sh: line 4: convert: command not found |
Okay I think we'll forget as well about SVG for the moment. — Laudaka
[edit] Adding images
- Finding public domain clip art images: http://www.openclipart.org This a collection of clip art images created by volunteers.
- Right now uploading images to the ClubNix Wiki is impossible because of some configuration error. You can use http://www.imageshack.us/ in the mean time.
And how I'm going to shrink those images? hmmm.
<img src="
" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/>
<img src="
" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/>
[edit] Image that is link to another page in the wiki
See here for examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:Latin_America/Portals&action=edit . You can only do this with an image map. You can't use an image as the "content" for a link. Test:Image map
[edit] Redirecting
Normally when you move a page (rename it) a page with the original name will be created with a redirect to the new page:
#REDIRECT [[New name of page]]
You can also manually redirect. By using this very line of wiki markup of course with the name of the page to where you want to redirect.
